The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) provides data concerning organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation.
The Congress of the United States passed the National Organ transplant Act in 1984. The United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) was incorporated as an independent non-profit organization in March 1984, and was awarded the initial contract in 1986 to develop requirements for the operation of the OPTN and has served as the OPTN ever since.
The stated mission of UNOS is to "advance organ availability and transplantation by uniting and supporting our communities for the benefit of patients through education, technology and policy development".
