MINORITY ORGAN DONATION

Minority communities across the nation are experiencing a down turn in organ donation, especially in the African American communities. This can be attributed to a number of factors including lack of information concerning organ donation and transplantation, a proliferation of myths about organ donation, and lack of trust of the medical system. As a result, there is an imbalance in the rising number of minorities, especially African Americans, on the national waiting list for organ transplants, and African American organ donors.
